Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following the close of a $200M Series B, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, we are expanding our teams and capabilities to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
Our work is guided by clear values: building technologies with real-world impact, pursuing excellence in everything we do, setting ambitious goals, and taking on the hardest technical challenges. We operate in a demanding environment where rigor, ownership, and execution are expected.
About the Role
As Harmattan AI scales from ~80 to 350 engineers and pushes hardware toward its first customer deliveries, we need a dedicated owner to run civil compliance and certification campaigns end-to-end across our drone hardware portfolio. This is the single point of accountability for "can we legally ship this product in this market" - and the person who will build and lead the Certification function as the portfolio grows.
Responsibilities
Own the consumer electronics and radio product compliance and certification roadmap end-to-end across the HAI hardware portfolio
Regulatory scoping: determine which directives, standards, and authorities apply per product variant and per target market
Plan, select, and manage accredited test labs (TÜV, UL, Intertek, Element, Eurofins, SGS) and notified bodies
Author and own evidence packages and technical files, and sign off on Declarations of Conformity
Run ongoing surveillance and change-impact assessments across the portfolio
Flag compliance issues early in design reviews and escalate risks before they become blockers
Partner daily with the UAS Engineering, RF Systems, Engineering Infrastructure, and Flight Test & Validation teams, and hand the certified design to Production & Industrialisation for conformity in manufacturing
Candidate Requirements
8 to 15 years in product compliance and certification at a hardware scale-up, ideally at a commercial drone or UAV company (DJI, Skydio, Parrot, Quantum Systems, Wingcopter, Autel, or similar)
Direct, hands-on experience with the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), EMC Directive, Low Voltage Directive, and Machinery Directive and their harmonised standards (EN 301 489, EN 300 328, EN 62368-1, EN ISO 12100, EN IEC 62311, and similar)
FCC Part 15 and Part 90/95 experience where applicable
Proven track record of managing accredited-lab and notified-body relationships directly (TÜV, UL, Intertek, Element, Eurofins, SGS)
Strong technical writer - the evidence package is the deliverable
Programme-management mindset: able to track dozens of parallel workstreams, predict where each will land, and escalate before issue arises
Demonstrable experience shipping 2 to 3 multi-radio hardware products through full certification and able to speak to the specific standards, the test failures encountered, and how they were resolved
English fluency required; French strongly preferred given the Paris site and DGAC interface
Defense airworthiness exposure (EMAR 21, STANAG 4671, DGA/DSAE) is a plus, with room to grow into that scope as the roadmap develops
We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
