Job Title: Research engineer – cell biologist
Job Purpose: This project sits at the interface of cell biology and pharmaceutical formulation. The goal is to develop biological methods (cell cultures, Air-Liquid Interface (ALI) models) to evaluate and predict the activity of formulation candidates, to further establish robust correlations between in vitro models with in vivo data. This integrated approach aims to accelerate the development of inhaled therapeutic antibody formulations.
Reporting to: joint supervision SoteriaBio and ICGM, monthly progress meetings.
Major Responsibilities:
Sets up and optimizes relevant cell models including ALI to mimic healthy and pathologic lung epitheliums and to assess their reaction following treatment with the formulation candidates. Develops functional assays and associated analytical methods to demonstrate the efficacy of antibody formulations
With support of the formulation scientist team, establishes and produces pharmaceutical formulations to evaluate key formulation parameters driving cellular responses.
Supports daily laboratory maintenance activities such as ordering, equipment maintenance and validation, waste management, sample packaging and shipment, and material sterilization.
Documents project work, drafts and completes written reports, makes report presentations to colleagues, partners and SoteriaBio management
Minimum requirements: Master or PhD in cell biology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field. Background in pharmacotechnology formulation or biomaterials is a plus.
Good command of English (spoken and written).
Proficiency in cell culture techniques (2D, 3D, co-cultures); Experience with ALI models is highly desirable, Imaging techniques, flow cytometry, ELISA, quantitative PCR, Data analysis and biostatistics.
Ability to effectively work, perform and communicate within a multi-disciplinary, international team is essential. Ability to conduct technical work independently and to innovatively solve practical problems with minimum supervision is highly advantageous.
Duration: 12 months; Start date: October 2026
Application: Please send CV, cover letter, and contact details of two referees
About SoteriaBio: SoteriaBio is an ambitious start-up with strong growth ambitions with the objective of developing inhaled antibody formulations. The right candidate will have real opportunities to grow alongside the company and experience an innovative drug development process at the interface of academia and industry. We offer excellent working conditions in modern, purpose-built facilities.
About ICGM – C3M: The Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier (ICGM, UMR CNRS / University of Montpellier) is a leading French research institute in chemistry and materials science. This position is hosted within the C3M department — Chemistry and MacroMolecular Materials. The department is particularly active in the design and characterization of functional macromolecular systems with applications in drug delivery and biomaterials.
