About the Role
As a Project Director, you will lead and oversee a team of project managers and program managers responsible for delivering a portfolio of projects or a major strategic program.
You will drive excellence in project execution across safety, quality, cost, and schedule while providing strategic direction, governance, and operational support in a complex, multi-project environment.
This role combines portfolio leadership, people management, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio & Project Leadership
- Build, lead, and coordinate cross-functional teams, including subject matter experts, customers, suppliers, and partners, to address complex technical, quality, schedule, risk, and cost challenges.
- Manage priorities and resource allocation across multiple concurrent projects to ensure successful delivery.
- Define and implement project management frameworks, governance models, systems, and controls that support consistent, high-quality project execution.
- Provide strategic direction to project and program managers to optimize portfolio performance and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure early identification of project risks and issues and implement effective mitigation and corrective actions.
People Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of experienced project managers, program managers, and project control professionals.
- Foster a high-performance culture by recognizing achievements, encouraging collaboration, and addressing performance gaps when needed.
- Support capability development and succession planning within the organization.
- Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous professional growth.
Business & Strategic Contribution
- Identify opportunities to strengthen customer relationships and support business growth.
- Contribute to long-term operational and portfolio strategies, including the development of strategic partnerships with key clients.
- Support resource planning and optimization across the Business Unit to ensure efficient delivery of products and services.
- Participate in cost estimation, project setup activities, and strategic planning for new business opportunities.
Accountabilities
You will be responsible for:
- Driving excellence in project and program management across the assigned portfolio or Business Unit segment.
- Ensuring all projects meet contractual commitments related to scope, quality, cost, schedule, and performance.
- Providing oversight and operational support to the project portfolio in collaboration with the EPMO.
- Supporting both short-term execution objectives and long-term business goals.
- Improving organizational effectiveness through optimized resource allocation and execution strategies.
- Making informed decisions and operating with a high degree of autonomy within established leadership guidelines.
Working Relationships
Reporting to a Senior Director or Vice President, you will:
- Lead a team of experienced professionals, including project managers, program managers, and project controllers (typically up to 15 direct reports).
- Collaborate closely with:
- Business Unit leadership and segment managers
- Project and program management teams
- Engineering, operations, and support functions
- EPMO and governance organizations
- Customers, suppliers, and strategic partners
This role requires regular interaction with senior stakeholders and the ability to build alignment, influence decisions, and drive results across complex organizations.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- MBA or equivalent business qualification is a plus.
- 15+ years of experience in project and/or program management within engineering, construction, manufacturing, energy, or nuclear environments.
- Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary, and matrixed organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in complex and dynamic environments.
- Strong track record of driving issues through resolution and delivering business results.
Knowledge & Expertise
- Project and program management methodologies.
- Contract management and commercial practices.
- Portfolio management and strategic planning.
- Change management and operational transformation.
- Knowledge of the nuclear industry and regulatory environment is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Westinghouse products and services is a plus.
Languages & Certifications
- Fluent English required.
- Additional languages are a strong asset.
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management certifications are highly desirable.
