Role Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Continental Europe will provide operational leadership across the region, ensuring effective coordination between Continental Europe and Group functions while supporting the execution of strategic, regulatory and operational priorities. The role is designed to focus on operational leadership, execution and governance rather than Deputy CEO responsibilities, which will remain within the existing local governance framework. The successful candidate will act as the central operational counterpart for Continental Europe, ensuring the region's interests are effectively represented within Group initiatives and that operational capabilities, governance and infrastructure continue to support business growth and regulatory obligations.

Role Responsibilities
Continental Europe Operational Coordination
Act as the central coordinator across Continental Europe, ensuring effective execution of business priorities.
Represent Continental Europe requirements and constraints within Group workstreams, governance forums and transformation initiatives.
Facilitate communication and alignment between local management teams and Group functions.
Promote accountability and delivery across cross-functional initiatives impacting the region.
Outsourcing Governance & Operational Resilience
Maintain oversight of outsourced activities and critical service providers.
Ensure governance arrangements meet regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Monitor service quality, performance and risk associated with outsourced activities.
Support operational resilience, business continuity and third-party risk management frameworks across Continental Europe.
Front-to-Back Operational Leadership
Oversee the end-to-end operating model supporting the business.
Develop a strong understanding of trade lifecycle processes, operational workflows, systems, clearing and settlement activities.
Monitor operational performance, workflow efficiency and exception management processes.
Support scalability, operational effectiveness and continuous improvement initiatives.
Oversight of Group Support Functions
Serve as the primary interface between Continental Europe and Group support functions, including Technology, Operations, Human Resources, Facilities, Procurement and other Corporate functions.
Ensure effective service delivery and escalation management.
Drive accountability and follow-through across Group teams supporting Continental Europe.
Coordinate regional requirements and priorities with relevant stakeholders.
Change, Workplace & Infrastructure Management
Lead and coordinate operational and technology-related transformation initiatives impacting Continental Europe.
Maintain oversight of workplace infrastructure, facilities management and office footprint planning.
Support business continuity arrangements and operational readiness across all Continental Europe locations.
Ensure operational infrastructure remains aligned with business needs and growth objectives.
Experience & Competencies
Essential
Strong leadership experience within financial services, capital markets, brokerage, trading, banking or market infrastructure organisations operating across multiple European jurisdictions.
A solid understanding of operational processes, technology platforms and outsourcing governance.
Demonstrated experience leading complex operational functions and operating models within a regulated financial services environment.
Strong understanding of Continental European regulatory frameworks, governance requirements and the operational expectations of regulated entities, including interaction with local regulators and supervisory bodies.
Proven ability to drive strategic execution and deliver large-scale business, operational and regulatory change initiatives across multiple countries and business functions.
Fluency in English and French, both written and verbal, with the ability to operate effectively in a multinational and multicultural European environment.
Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse interests and drive execution through matrix-managed teams and Group functions.
Experience leading and coordinating cross-functional teams across Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and other corporate support functions.
Excellent presentation and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex operational, regulatory and strategic matters to senior internal and external stakeholders.
The ability to act as an effective bridge between Continental Europe and Group functions.
Desired
Previous experience serving as a Chief Operating Officer, Head of Operations, Chief Administrative Officer or equivalent executive leadership position within a financial markets or capital markets organisation.
Experience operating within a pan-European business structure, including oversight of multiple regulated entities across Continental Europe.
Familiarity with MiFID II, EMIR, DORA, operational resilience frameworks and broader European financial services regulatory developments.
Experience managing relationships with European regulators, exchanges, clearing houses and market infrastructure providers.
Prior responsibility for regional transformation programmes, office footprint strategy, workplace transformation and organisational effectiveness initiatives.
Knowledge of interdealer broking, electronic trading, commodities, energy, rates, credit, foreign exchange or data and analytics businesses.
Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, entity integrations, restructuring programmes or large-scale organisational change initiatives.
Demonstrated success in establishing strong governance disciplines across geographically dispersed teams and regulated entities.
Experience leading technology-enabled operational transformation programmes, including automation, process optimisation and operating model redesign.
Additional European language capabilities (Spanish, German or Italian) would be advantageous.
Relevant professional qualifications, such as an MBA, ACA, ACCA, CFA, FRM or equivalent executive-level business or financial services qualification.
