Job Description
Eramet is seeking its next Group Insurance Manager. This role is both operational and strategic: the Insurance Manager oversees the entire insurance coverage strategy for the Group (~€20M in annual premiums), working closely with risk management.
In a context of transformation, the central challenge is to evolve the Group's insurance vision into a tool for risk prevention and mitigation, aligned with the Group's risk mapping. The position is at the heart of the interface between risk teams, operations, and market partners (insurers, reinsurers, brokers).
The scope covers heavy industrial assets across four continents (open-pit mines, metallurgical plants, railway infrastructure, chemical sites) in high-risk geographies: Gabon, Senegal, Indonesia, Argentina, New Caledonia. The Insurance Manager relies on the Group's reinsurance captive and manages an experienced project officer.
Responsibilities
1. Insurance Strategy & Risk Management
Define and evolve the insurance coverage strategy in alignment with the Group's risk mapping and mitigation priorities.
Identify risks that are poorly or not covered and propose suitable solutions (new policies, adjustments, retention via the captive).
Oversee the annual renewal program by integrating data from risk teams, operations, and insurer audits.
Manage and optimize the reinsurance captive (retention, parametric insurance, reserves); act as an administrator.
Actively contribute to the Enterprise Risk Management system by incorporating the "risk transfer" dimension.
2. Insurance Programme Management (~€20M in premiums)
Supervise all lines of coverage: property damage (PD/BI), liability, environmental liability, transport, cyber, construction, medical, projects, etc.
Lead negotiations with insurers and reinsurers, highlighting the Group's prevention efforts, in close collaboration with brokers.
Ensure regulatory compliance of programs in each of the Group's locations (Gabon, Senegal, Argentina, Norway, etc.).
3. Major Claims Management
Manage significant claims from opening to closure: file preparation, expert liaison, negotiation, and cash collection.
Monitor indemnity collection performance across all geographies, including the most complex local markets.
Analyse claims (Eramet and peers) to draw lessons in terms of coverage and prevention actions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations
Foster relationships with insurers, brokers, experts, and local correspondents in a long-term partnership approach.
Support the upskilling of local teams and insurance/risk correspondents on insurance-related matters.
Contribute to ESG/CSRD/DEU reporting on the risk and insurance dimension.
Manage the Insurance Officer responsible for operational and budgetary aspects.
Profile
Education & Experience
Master's degree (or equivalent) in law, finance, engineering, business, or a specialised insurance programme.
Minimum 10 years of insurance experience, gained in an international industrial company and/or in broking with a significant heavy industry portfolio.
Cross-line experience across multiple coverage lines: property damage, liability, construction, marine cargo, cyber, etc.
Knowledge of the French market is essential. Exposure to the London market or the sector-specific market is a plus.
Skills & Qualities
Ability to think in terms of risk mitigation, beyond pure policy management: understanding the underlying risk to size coverage appropriately.
Strong negotiation skills and ability to build lasting, trust-based relationships with insurers and brokers.
Performance-oriented: claims collection monitoring, prevention plan tracking, market condition optimisation.
Comfortable engaging with both field operations teams and senior decision-makers.
Strong analytical and writing skills; autonomous and open to self-questioning.
Fluent English is essential. French proficiency is highly valued.
