Vacataire d'enseignement – Mathématiques pour l'ingénieur (jusqu'à 20 heures, à partir de septembre 2026)
Part-time Lecturer – Engineering Mathematics (up to 20 hours, starting in September 2026)
About the position
As part of our Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering programme, we are seeking a part-time lecturer to deliver an undergraduate Engineering Mathematics module (20–30 hours), consisting of tutorials, practical classes and, where appropriate, problem-based learning activities.
The aim of this module is to provide engineering students with the mathematical foundations required to solve scientific and engineering problems encountered throughout their studies and future careers. The course focuses on the practical application of mathematical methods rather than formal proofs, with examples drawn from engineering, biotechnology and the life sciences whenever possible.
You will join a dynamic teaching team and contribute to the education of future engineers who will rely on mathematical modelling, quantitative analysis and scientific reasoning throughout their careers.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver tutorial and practical sessions in engineering mathematics.
- Develop or adapt teaching materials aligned with the module learning outcomes.
- Teach selected topics including, where appropriate: Functions (limits, continuity, derivatives, integrals, growth and decay, extrema), Exponential and logarithmic functions, Taylor series and polynomial approximations, Primitive functions and integration techniques, Matrix algebra and basic linear systems, Polynomial interpolation, First- and second-order ordinary differential equations, Two- and three-dimensional geometry, including symmetry, rotations and projections.
- Demonstrate how mathematical tools are applied to solve practical engineering and scientific problems.
- Support students throughout their learning by providing guidance during tutorials and practical sessions.
- Assess student learning through exercises, coursework and examinations.
- Work closely with the teaching team to ensure the module is well integrated within the overall engineering curriculum.
Candidate profile
You hold a degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, engineering, physics or a closely related discipline, and have a strong command of undergraduate mathematics.
Previous teaching or training experience is desirable but not essential. Above all, we are looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and can explain mathematical concepts clearly and progressively to students with diverse backgrounds.
Experience teaching mathematics to engineering students is particularly valued.
You are able to connect mathematical concepts to real scientific and engineering applications, helping students understand both the underlying theory and its practical relevance.
You have a good command of technical English (minimum B2 level), enabling you to use and explain English-language teaching resources.
You are organised, reliable and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with the academic teaching team.
What we offer
- A part-time teaching assignment of approximately 20–30 hours.
- Flexibility in organising the teaching sessions, in consultation with the module coordinator.
- The opportunity to contribute to the education of future engineers at a recognised higher education institution.
- A stimulating academic environment where mathematical modelling and quantitative analysis are central to biotechnology and bioprocess engineering.
The students enrolled in this module have a background in biology, biotechnology, chemistry and engineering rather than mathematics. We therefore particularly welcome applications from candidates who enjoy teaching mathematics through practical, application-oriented examples relevant to engineering and the life sciences.
