Vacataire d'enseignement – Introduction à la programmation Python (20–30 heures, à partir de septembre 2026)
Part-time Lecturer – Introduction to Python Programming (20–30 hours, starting in September 2026)
About the position
As part of our Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering programme, we are seeking a part-time teaching associate to deliver an introductory Python programming module (20–30 hours), consisting of tutorials, practical sessions and, if appropriate, a small project.
The aim of this module is to provide undergraduate engineering students, most of whom have little or no prior programming experience, with the fundamental skills required to solve scientific and engineering problems using Python. Typical applications include experimental data analysis, scientific computing, data visualisation and the automation of simple tasks.
You will join a dynamic teaching team and contribute to the education of future engineers who will use computational tools throughout their careers in biotechnology and bioprocess engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver tutorial and laboratory sessions, and optionally supervise a small programming project.
- Develop or adapt teaching materials aligned with the module learning outcomes.
- Teach the fundamentals of Python programming, including variables, control structures, functions, file handling, data structures, good programming practices and problem-solving techniques.
- Introduce students, where appropriate, to widely used scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, pandas and Matplotlib.
- Support students throughout their learning by providing guidance during practical sessions.
- Assess student learning through practical exercises, coursework and/or a programming project.
- Work closely with the teaching team to ensure the module is well integrated within the overall engineering curriculum.
Candidate profile
You have a strong command of Python and experience in software development, scientific computing or data science.
Previous teaching or training experience is desirable but not essential. Above all, we are looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and can communicate technical concepts clearly to beginners.
You are able to explain programming concepts in a structured, accessible and engaging way while maintaining a high academic standard.
You have a good command of technical English (minimum B2 level), enabling you to use and explain English-language documentation and learning resources.
You are organised, reliable and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with the academic teaching team.
What we offer
- A part-time teaching assignment of approximately 20–30 hours.
- Flexibility in organising the teaching sessions, in consultation with the module coordinator.
- The opportunity to contribute to the education of future engineers at a recognised higher education institution.
- A stimulating academic environment where programming skills are becoming increasingly important in biotechnology and bioprocess engineering.
The students enrolled in this module have a background in biology, biotechnology, chemistry and engineering, rather than computer science. We therefore particularly welcome applications from candidates who enjoy teaching programming through practical, science-oriented examples and real-world engineering applications.
