Senior Tax Associate : avis sur KPMG
Experience will get you a new job
"That's just how public accounting is." -- management response whenever I bring up concerns for the well-being of the staff
Big Four accounting experience will hands down get you in the door to a different job.
The firm recently took away the Senior Incentive Bonus, which allowed senior associates the option to defer an annual bonus for 3 years. The payout would have been $36,000. Instead, they've replaced the program with a quarterly $300/quarter.
Points positifsExperience to get you in the door of another company
Points négatifsLong Hours during busy season (60-75+ hours); busy season is 8 months long.
Long hours; boys club in some groups
If you work for a good partner, you'll have a good experience. If you work for a partner who is toxic, your life will be very rough, and no one can or will do anything about it, as long as they bring in the money. I worked for one partner who kicked holes in the wall. There was a senior manager who was proud that they'd stopped throwing things at staff. Another manager ran up and down the hallways to try and get to the workload. People in nearby groups seemed much calmer and happier, even though it was the same firm.
Points positifsFlexibility, affordable insurance
Points négatifsLong hours, unfair pay
Great future career opportunities, but at what cost?
Working at KPMG is a great place to establish yourself in the financial world and will open the doors to many future opportunities. Unfortunately, these benefits and opportunities come at a high cost of time and resources. Big 4 accounting companies ask a lot of lower-level employees and do not compensate them accordingly. If you can sacrifice many aspect of your life to put in the time at a big 4 accounting firm, it will pay dividends in the future, but is not preferable when actually involved with the company.
High Performance Culture
I worked in 3 out of the Big 4 accounting firms. The work is pretty much the same, but the business model and culture could be quite different. From all the Big 4 KPMG is the smallest and in my opinion with "best work/life balance" possible. If you are looking for a Big 4 experience and you are managing family, try KPMG. Nothing wrong with the other firms, as they are all leaders in audit, tax and advisory.
Focused on chargeable hours and billing
Employees are overworked in an effort to keep costs low. Efficient work is discouraged by the large emphasis placed on billable hours. Unhealthy workplace with unrealistic expectations.
Points positifsoffice location
Points négatifscompensation, inconsistent values
Good place to build a career
Great people, awesome flexibility when not in busy season. Very demanding hours all year. A lot of administrative things that made the job more stressful than needed.
Points positifsMobility and opportunity to move around.
Points négatifsBusy season last longer and longer each year.
I am very proud to be a part of KPMG in the last 2 more years and i have learned alot from this company. The work culture and the atmosphere were awsome. The management and the co-workers we are really helpful. The busy season were the hardest part of KPMG.
Points positifsFree meal passes
Points négatifsLong working hours
Working crazy hours with unpredictability, busy season is no longer restricted to a season. It is busy all year round with crazy amount of work and hours that need to be put in.
Points positifsCabs when staying late
Points négatifsHours, Stress, Management, NO work life balance
You have to be ready to work long hours including weekends during tax season. I personally do not mind working a lot if it is productive, but to me, it did not feel like I was accomplishing anything after working for so many hours.
Good place to learn and start a career.
Good place to learn and start a career. Opportunities to work on a broad range of clients and tax matters are available. It is also a great place to make network connections for a long term career.
