Enjoyed working with a fellow of the institute of Actuaries and learned a lot through my research in emerging markets.
During the summer of 2012 I took an internship for KPMG in the Financial Risk Management department.I had the opportunity to work very closely with a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and on one of the main projects of the department. My biggest project involved Solvency II and lasted through out my entire internship. During my time there I was in charge of a team of five interns with which I had to work very closely in order to deliver a project at the end of the internship on ‘Carlsberg in emerging markets.’ As the leader I was in charge of who would present the information and proofread all their pieces before giving in their final answers.
Regarding my work in the financial risk department I took the initiative to give summaries to each of my colleagues, regarding any important articles in the daily papers while one of my tasks was also to inform the offices at the headquarters of KPMG with any recent developments in Cyprus. On the days where my workload was less I checked the project on Solvency II until one of my colleagues was free to tell me how to make myself more useful.During my internship I emphasized my time more on how the team was working and networked with them. I can fit into any social environment and I used this to get to know my team better and possibly use these contacts in the future.

A challenging yet rewardable working place.
Everyday, or even every minute, is different here in KPMG Risk Consulting. I have been involved in various audit and advisory projects for two years. My clients includes big five banks, prominent pension funds, regulatory and govenment agencies.
Hardest part, which I found also the most interesting part of my job is I have to interact with the smartest people (my coworkers and clients) in the world on a daily basis. I learnt different skills from each of them. I was given great opportunities to coach COOP/ Junior Consultant while strengthening my leadership.

Regarding a typical day at work, it was always pleasant because all the people was helpfull, friendly and totally self driven and commited with their duties.

Typical day at risk management
As an intern, I just presented some point of views.
First, the work life balance there was great. We seldom stayed up too late. Second, the seniors were nice to teach you about the work. Third, you really could take some responsibilities there and gain knowledge about common practice.

Fast Past and demanding particularly during busy seasons
Good deal of overtime required during busy season. Work environment is mostly friendly. Employment here offers a great deal of learning opportunities and professional growth.

Slow work, but very competitive for advancement
Hard to make any sort of assessment on KPMG, as the experience is highly personal. I have been on a total of 3 projects in 1.5 years here, but I know of people that have been on 20 in a given week.

Great Company
KPMG provides constant training and possibilities to be exposure to different sources of knowledge and challenges. People is nice, but you will work several hours per week.
