Not a positive environment for job satisfaction or growth
I was excited about the prospect of pursuing a career in tax at KPMG, however, my typical day here was very administrative. I spent most of my time dealing with internal billing systems and waiting for work that was not much more interesting that the billing systems. The only knowledge I felt I gained during my time here (as I spent time here prior doing tax compliance and already had tax return experience) was in excel formulas and functions.
The management seemed unconcerned with actually obtaining enough work to translate to high utilization, but more concerned with creating reasons to bill clients regardless of actually having work to perform. I found management to also be unconcerned with morale or job advancement, two areas that were consistly lamented in my office.
The hardest part of the job for me was handling internal politics and learning protocols for completing engagements. To be honest, the most enjoyable part of this job was resigning.
