A typical day at KPMG was planning an audit. This means checking emails, preparing the current and permanent files for the next audit. working on three to four different audits, meeting with the clients, preparing a clients deliverable list for the clients. Conducting entrance and exist meetings with the clients, filedwork at the clients's business, preparing Management Letter points, audited draft financial statements, training on auditing procedures, analyzing and reviewing the financial statements to ensure accuracy and no errors. Research foreign currency rates for investment securities the Bloomberg System. Review clients' corporate documents at Legal Firms. The majority of the audits required team work unless it was a small audit where one individual did the audit. I worked with a diverse group of people from different cultures around the owrld and I enjoyed working with the team, I developed friendship with most of them and we remained in contact with each other to this day. The hardest part of the job was seeing persons with so much knowledge and skills leave the Company to pursue other careers. Management at KPMG had an opened door policy and was very respecful to all of its employees.
Points positifsthe social events really bought the staff together after working hard all year.
Points négatifsskilled and competent employees leaves the company
A typical day in Pretoria will be a day of laughter, learning and speaking Afrikaans. The work culture in Pretoria is the most enjoyable part of the job.
Management is set on personal growth of every employee and is supportive and informative. Coworkers is friendly and do not mind teaching you the ins and outs of the business.
KPMG Pretoria is a smaller branch of KPMG SA, therefore there is limited jobs available and tight budgets, limiting benefits and job security.
Points positifsWork environment, Integrity of management, Speaking afrikaans
A typical day at work started at 8:30 and ended at 16:00. I learned about the auditing process and more about the business world. The management were so friendly, approachable and always willing to help. My co-workers made my work experience more exciting and interesting. The hardest part of the job was having to be very thorough when auditing, meaning it must be done more than once in order for it to be perfect/approved. the most enjoyable part of the job was learning all those new things about auditing and and meeting people.
My first day in being the Audito in charge and managing junior staff.
I was very nevous, but I thought of doing the following:
I looked at how work was done in the previous year, compiled a plan for the audit, consulted the previous in charge and asked about how was the previous audit managed. Also in my consultation I included the challenges faced in the audit.
With regards to junior staff, I explained to them what audit means, the background of the client and what are important areas for the audit
Points positifslearning to lead peaople, manage work and role of managing
Typical day at work involves engagement with audit client staff and performing audit work.
Learned a lot, including but no limited to professional conduct as well as application of technical knowledge to practice.
Good management which allowed and encouraged independent thinking, provided regular feedback.
Amazing co-workers, all willing to assist.

Working in teams and yet allowed to be independent.
A lot of compensation benefits, like life insurance, provident fund, car insurance, benevolent fund. This was a very big cpa,s company of the charted accountants partner..I work with them a very easily and work there a long time in this company.
The overall rating for this company is 5 plus.
Points positifsi get a lot of free lunches
Points négatifsi have health insurance and entertainment benefits as well.
management were fine, liked hot desk operation (laptop in locker, could sit at a different desk everyday). The hardest part was the process of everyone had an input i.e. I complete, someone else reviews, someone second reviews etc. Some sets of accounts were submitted on the last day possible.
Points positifsSmall Business accounting were what I had done before
Points négatifsTemp job that never turned permanent
I enjoyed working for KPMG, because the company goes and extra mile to build the capacity of its employees on the job and have regular performance reviews shared by the staff and the managers takes time to explain to the staff the importance of these reviews and how individual staff could improve his/her performance
Points positifsCovered Healthcare and paid daysoff
During my time at KPMG, I began to shadow professionals and see the life of an accountant at work. Shadowing current employees allowed me to see the required skills needed for an account such as being able to work under pressure, clear communication with clients, being able to adapt into different fields of accounting as well as integrating with different types of people
