Avoid the Justice & Security Group like the plague!
KPMG itself appears great, though I haven't had much of a chance to interact with the colleagues from the greater firm. But the J&S practice is literally tied for the worst job I've ever had! The Senior Associates doing all the work are, for the most part, great, and the work is important... but the team culture, as actively dictated by management, is incredibly toxic. Hence, everyone is forced to act the worst version of themselves, just to keep their jobs. People are deliberately pushed to compete against each other, creating a never-ending cycle of "but X does more than Y, so X is better," regardless of actual value delivered. It's all personality-driven, based on egos and luck. There is no concept of work-life balance; in fact, even mentioning it will earn you an eternal mark on your reputation. The amount of lies that are being spread around by both recruiter and management is impressive, if not staggering. Run, do not walk, away from this practice.
No salary is ever worth that level of stress and degradation.
Points positifsThe salary is reasonable, and firm benefits are excellent.
Points négatifsZero work-life balance; toxic working environment

Professional Challenge
KPMG provides an oppotrunity to go as far as you can in your career. As well, they have such a great flow of business that new projects that require technologies are more than adequate, so it is also a great place to learn and grow, professionally. Likewise and just as important, this is a great place to learn all there is to know about business, the needs of the client and how it all fits together. When from time to time you can sit down with the customer, have a cup of coffee and just listen, there is a wealth of knowledge to be gained. You have to work for it, but it there for the taking. Working in the Management Consulting Industry is an education in and of itself. Get what you want, leave the rest or go as far as you can with the tools at your disposal.

Pros and cons for working with KPMG
The training program at KPMG is phenomenal. Every year they provide us with the tools we need to conduct an efficient audit. Typical hours for a senior associate during a non-busy season range from 45-55 hours. Busy season hours range from 50-90 hours. The hardest part of the job, is maintaining a healthy work life balance. Movement within the company is an option, but difficult to achieve. The employees of KPMG are amazing people to work with! Everyone is friendly and has a strong work ethic. The training provided makes KPMG an idealistic place to start your career. The work life balance makes it a difficult place to continue your personal life.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My manager and partner were a delight to work for.
What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The client was absolutely incompetent, and it was painful to get an answer from them.
What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Tough to describe. We were on the client site, and rarely had interaction with other colleagues.
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
At first, it was rush to get to client's office so you could get a desk - there were only 5 desks for 40 people. Eventually they slowly added more and more desks.

Meat Grinder
KPMG is a meat grinder. The 12 years I worked for them I never say one person retire. The company gets rid of its aging workforce before they get a chance to retire with full benefits. One of the worst companies I've ever been associated with. While there I saw every person hired on with me let go through the years. By the time the company forced early retirement on me at the age of 57 after 12 years of dedicated service everyone I knew at the company had be let go. Not a secure place to work for long-term life planning.
Points positifsThey have a training culture in place.
Points négatifsGrinder mentality, and no job security.

Work, Travel , Fun
KPMG team is very supporting in all aspect of Audit in NRCS since last 3 years and before that 2007/ 2010 on Forest Service Project. Right from Partners to Senior Managers, and seniors help us and we support them in all aspect of Audit. We travel with various member of team to weekly for testing.
Between years 2007-2010 the audit and testing were done on big files and papers. As we have stared in 2015 the complete audit is paperless.
While doing the Bank closing for FDIC banks take over, travelling with different teams on weekly basis for 75 to 80 hours a week.

Nice place
The projects were awesome and the team members were great to work with. Learned a lot about office politics and how if you are not liked or are willing to take a "hit for the team" when management messes up that one is blacked balled for all future projects and given clerical work on every project.
The hardest part of the job was knowing that if one did the right thing and having high ethics one got punished for it by being placed in menial positions and denied the opportunity to be placed on contracts.
Points négatifsproactive is not welcome

Positve and Memorable Career Experience!!!
I would not have remained at KPMG for 20 years without the collaborative and respectful environment of my tenure. I have nothing but positive thoughts and memories!
Points positifsExceptionally talented and high caliber people, positive teaming environment, respect, integrity, flexibility, trust, etc.
Points négatifsEmail is the main mode of communication and volume could be overwhelming at times. However, too much communication is far better than the opposite.
