Avis généraux sur l'entreprise KPMG (Houston, TX)
Great for what it was - a solid career launching job
I started at KPMG with at least 25 other new college graduates from my university. I stayed 4 years, and was the last of those 25 to leave. The job is very intense and takes a LOT of your personal time - but you know that going in. I am and always will be extremely grateful for the opportunities KPMG offered me. I learned more in those 4 years than I can imagine and the fact that I did that hard work has opened many doors for me going forward. It gave other employers a clear message about my capabilities and a confidence in the training I received.
That being said, the lifestyle and pace was not sustainable for me (many nights working past midnight, many weekends at the office). The job worked well when I was single - but as a married woman and mother, other priorities took precedence (as they should have). My long term goal was always to work in non-profit, which I left KPMG to do.
Points positifsIncredible training, strong benefits, strong pay, huge plus to have on your resume
Points négatifsWorking hours, intense pressure to meet deadlines

Great opportunities to advance, no work-life balance whatsoever
If you work in Advisory chances are you travel. And travel usually means you do it Monday through Thursday every week. There are nice perks from that as you get to keep your points from hotel and airline rewards programs. But if you have a life at home you can only live it on the weekends.
That said, it is a great firm to advance year to year. I learned new skills and received a reasonable pay increase every year. Some years it was very generous.
The structure is helpful for career advancement. You have an internal manager who is responsible for making sure you stay utilized and advocating for your advancement. Day to day you'd report to a different manager on your engagement. If you are interested in trying something different you network around the firm and work with your internal manager to find the kind of project that suits your professional goals.
Job for the single person
KPMG has a lot of pros and cons. I learned a great deal while I was there and enjoyed it. However, it is a job for some one who is single. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. They work you like a dog, the pay isn't great but they do have nice benefits. I was an experienced hire so It was a bit different for me than some one coming straight out of college. I got shuffled around a lot and my PML was completely detached and showed no interest in my success or failure. Had the company show more interest in me and my success, I might have stayed but the company because of its complete detachment from me made me feel like trash.
Points positifsGreat experience, Learning and benefits
Points négatifsLong Hours, mediocre pay, detached uncaring management
Smart people, interesting business challenges, tough lifestyle on the consulting side
Spent 8+ years within Management Consulting. Loved the ability to continually build and contribute to the organization. Had great opportunities to solve interesting business challenges for clients across industries, and had tremendous growth as a consultant and a leader. Excellent quality teammates at all levels. Creative thinkers, collaborative and driven. Downsides are tough hours and high travel. Management did what they could to accommodate local engagements when possible, however it could not be guaranteed.
Excellent work environment with the best professionals in the work foce.
The best work place ever. This firm recognizes hard work, rewards the employees with the best a company can offer. Offers excellent rewards to employees that no longer work at the firm. The firm keeps its past employees in the loop. This firms gets involved in community needs, freely volunteers its services and allows employees to participate. Travel is included, this firm believes in its staff and customers.
Points positifsKPMG Perks for discounts, past and current employees & family
Great Opportunity, No Work/Life Balance
KPMG offer great training, and has a wealth of resources, but there is absolutely NO work/life balance. This is not a KPMG problem, it’s a Big 4 problem. The amount of hours you work compared to your counterparts in Industry is so lopsided it laughable.
No matter what they say, there is NO work/life balance.
That being said it is a great opportunity if you go into knowing what it is. Expect 50+ work weeks during NON-busy season times.
Definitely a best place to work winner!
The flexibility and remote working options were the best I experienced in 30 years of corporate positions. The company rewards hard work and those who go above and beyond in their present roles. There are so many options to take your career to the next level and to keep redefining your own role within the company. Loved the culture and the teamwork.
Points positifsflexibility and remote working options
Great place for a consulting career
Similar to any Big 4 consulting firm, it has its positives and negatives. It is great to work with hard working, intelligent people on projects that will push organizations forward. However, there is quite a bit of extra work that is required in order to move up in the organization, as well as strains on personal life due to the nature of the work (manageable, as long as you are aware of this going into the position).
Pros & Cons
As an Intern I was responsible for preparing tax returns for expats. I learned tax treaties and laws that influence corporate decisions for sending employees to overseas projects.
Excellent co-workers which makes it fun to work crazy hours during busy season.
During busy season the work life balance is poor. There is very limited option for advancement within the company.
If you can stay long enough you will be rewarded.
Career advancement job
We worked as a team and as an intern, I worked under those on a higher position. It was busy season so we worked more than 12 hours a day. We gathered and evaluated financial transactions to confirm they match the records provided. We also recognized inconsistencies of financial statements that were provided.
Most enjoyable part of the job was working with a team.
Points positifsFree dinner and snacks
